    • Is a bigger furnace or air conditioner better?

No. Bigger is not always better in the HVAC industry. When buying a home comfort system, selecting the right size is crucial. An over sized system can actually be less comfortable, less reliable, and less efficient than a properly sized system. We have many systems to choose from. Our expert comfort technician can help you to select the perfect one for your unique home and lifestyle.

    • How often should I change my filters?

The primary purpose of your furnace filter is to protect your equipment. Running your system without a filter can damage your system and lead to costly repairs. Excessively dirty filters restrict airflow and can cause poor system performance, added energy consumption, and even premature system breakdown. There are a variety of filter types and a variety of factors will impact the life of the filter. Standard 1 inch thick filters may need to be replaced as often as monthly while some of the large 4 - 5 inch thick filters can easily last six months between changes. It is best to check your filters monthly and replace them when they become obviously dirty. We highly recommend the use of large pleated media air cleaners when possible. They have very little air restriction, do a fantastic job of protecting your equipment from damaging and energy robbing build up of dirt and gunk, and also do a great job of reducing visible dust in your home. • Do you offer financing for a furnace or air conditioner upgrade?

Yes, we offer financing for all types of situations, including upgrades to high efficiency furnaces and air conditioners. Call us to ask about your specific needs.

    • Would a new AC unit help me lower my costs during the summer?

If you have a 15-year-old unit it could be as little as 6 SEER. Most people set their thermostat around 78 degrees in the summer to save costs and with a new Trane high efficiency air conditioner you could save as much as $600 per summer on a typical 4 ton unit while having your thermostat set a few degrees colder.

    • What are the benefits of a programmable thermostat?

With a programmable thermostat, you can program when your furnace should stay turned on and go off while you are away from the home. You can program it to turn off after you leave, and then turn back on 30 minutes before you arrive home so you can return to a warm house. Because of the greater control you can have over how long the heater runs, these thermostats save up to 15% on your energy bills during the winter and 10% in the summer.

    • Why are furnaces and air conditioners so noisy?

Older units are noisy because they were not built with the quality materials we have available today, such as Trane components. Trane also installs sound insulators on the compressor as well as a weather guard top, which not only reduces noise, but helps the unit last longer by preventing debris from getting inside the system.

    • Should I turn off my furnace before I go on vacation to save energy?

Common settings is 85 degrees in the summer if you have air conditioning, and 60 in the winter if you will be gone for a couple of days. These settings will keep most plants alive and will keep pipes from freezing and bursting in the winter.

    • Do I run any risk by accepting the lowest bid?

YES! If you receive a bid that is 5-10% lower than other companies, it is because of one of the following reasons:

      • Their products are inferior
      • They do not do quality installation jobs
      • They are leaving other costs out of the bid, such as the cost of a permit or to have an inspector look at your house

At Carter Comfort Systems, we do all the work for you; you just need to relax and enjoy the comfort and energy efficiency of your new system.

    • Do you offer financing?
Yes. We have several finance options to choose from. Rates are plans are very competitive and the application process is quick and easy. Give us a call. We would be happy to discuss your specific needs and help you to choose the financing plan that works for your budget.
    • My energy costs are high. Will a new system reduce my costs?
There have been tremendous advances in technology over the past couple of decades and with it has come much more efficient heating and air conditioning equipment and an increase in minimum efficiency standards placed upon manufacturers. Also, if your home still has the original heating and air conditioning system, chances are high that it was a minimum efficiency system at the time the home was built. There are many grades of equipment which range in efficiency. It is not uncommon for a new, high efficiency system to save 25% - 60% on your heating and / or cooling costs. With energy costs continually increasing, it makes a lot of sense to install higher efficiency equipment. Call us to schedule a free, in home consultation. Our expert comfort technicians can help you choose a system that will reduce your energy costs, increase your comfort, and meet your budget requirements.
